Debt Collection
It’s not unusual for a business to be faced with unpaid invoices, whether it’s due to being a little too lenient with the debtor, not having the time to spend chasing customers or just sheer bad luck. It’s also not unusual for businesses to be concerned about using a debt collection agency through fears of high costs or the customer relationship breaking down.

We work hard to ensure that we recover your monies from the debtor where possible whilst maintaining a professional and diplomatic approach. Since 1993, we have successfully recovered over £30 million in unpaid debts for our clients, many of whom now use us on a regular basis to chase unpaid invoices on their behalf.

FAQs on Debt Collection

Q: I’ve heard it’s expensive to use a debt collection agency, surely it’s better to just write off the debt?

A: Some debt recovery agencies will charge large set up fees in addition to their recovery fees. We do not do this, our fees are on a sliding scale dependant on the age of the debt and there is no set up fee when you pass the debt to us.

Often, in the case of commercial debt recovery we are able to recover our costs from the other side thanks to the EU Late Payment Directive.

Q: Debt collection agencies use dodgy bailiffs to harass customers, you’ll ruin the relationship between my business and the customer won’t you?

A: This is something that we hear all too often and it is completely wrong!

We only use court approved bailiffs following court proceedings as an absolute last resort. But it is very rare that action through the courts is required as the fear of having to pay additional court costs will often push the debtor to either pay in full or to set up a payment plan. We pride ourselves in being firm but fair with debtors, working hard to try and maintain a good relationship with them where we can.

Q: The invoice should have been paid 2 years ago; it can’t be collected now can it?

A: It is possible to pursue a debt for up to 6 years after it became overdue, and possibly even longer dependant on a number of factors such as outstanding County Court Judgements. If you aren’t sure whether or not you’d be able to pass your debt to us to collect, give us a call or fill out the enquiry form and one of our experienced team members will be able to give you the advice you need!

Q: What happens if you can’t collect the debt?

A: Very occasionally, despite our best efforts it simply isn’t possible to recover your monies for you. We don’t operate on a no-win no-fee basis because this results in a higher fee when debts can be recovered. In these cases we request a discontinuance fee from £85 to cover the cost of the work that we will have carried out trying to recover your money. The same fee applies if you decide, for whatever reason, to stop the collection process.

Q: What happens if the debtor has moved without passing on their new contact information?

A: We offer a tracing service which can help us to locate the debtor. We work closely with a team of expert tracers who are all highly experienced professionals meaning that we have the best possible chance of finding the individual. Find out more about our Tracing service here.
